Frequently Asked Questions
 |
What is the difference between the SMS Software Development Kit and
a Direct SMPP Connection?
While both solutions provide a secure and reliable infrastructure to send and receive SMS,
an SMPP account has many advantages and disadvantages compared to the SMS Software Development
Kits.
A Simplewire Direct SMPP connection will provide higher throughput, faster message
delivery notifications, and lower-level control over data content. However,
an SMPP connection provides a very raw, low-level messaging interface which
typically requires a longer development cycle to utilize.
Remember, the two solutions are not mutually exclusive. Your company can have
both an SMS Software Development Kit account and an SMPP account to take advantage
of both services.
I know my company needs a direct SMPP connection, however we do not have
the in-house expertise to develop our product. Can Simplewire help?
Simplewire Professional Services has helped numerous customers in various
industries develop both web and desktop-based messaging applications. SMPP
is a feature rich, yet complicated protocol. In order to quickly develop
your product, having skilled experts on-hand for consulting or product
development can help reduce expenses while improving quality. Contact
Simplewire Sales for more information regarding
Simplewire Professional Services.
What SMPP version(s) does your gateway support?
The Simplewire SMPP gateway provides both SMPP version 3.3 and 3.4 support. Customers
can either dynamically request either version during their initial bind
into our network, or Simplewire can configure a customer account to
default to either version.
Which network operators can your SMPP gateway reach?
The Simplewire SMPP gateway can reach every network that its SMS
Software Development Kits can reach. Please view its network connectivity
matrix for the most up-to-date information regarding network availablity.
How are SMS messages priced through your SMPP gateway?
SMS are priced exactly the same as our SMS Software Development Kits. The
particular price of an SMS depends on its destination and number of credits
required to transmit the SMS. Please view our Network Connectivity list
for the most up-to-date prices for each network operator.
Can my application receive SMS through your SMPP gateway?
Yes, both the termination of SMS (sending SMS to a mobile) and the origination
of SMS (receiving SMS from a mobile) is supported through our SMPP gateway.
In order to be able to receive SMS, please note that your application
will need a dedicated phone number allocated to it. Simplewire can
provide dedicated mobile phone numbers to support the origination of SMS
from mobile phones.
How fast can messages be transmitted through an SMPP Direct Connection?
Each customer is allocated different throughput throttles based on their
monthly support plan. However, for the sake of argument, if throttles were
not placed on a customer's account, one Simplewire SMPP direct connection
could easily sustain throughput well over 150 SMS per second! If a customer
required higher throughput, concurrent connections can be established to increase
throughput. For example, three concurrent connections
could achieve throughput of 450 SMS per second. Please note that basic
Simplewire SMPP accounts start at a throttle of 1 SMS per second. You will
need to contact Simplewire Sales to enquire about pricing for higher
throughputs.
My application only supports SMPP version 3.4 (specifically the Data SM
command) for sending and receiving SMS. Will this work with your
gateway?
During the initial bind request, a customer can specifically request
version 3.3 or 3.4 support. If 3.4 is chosen, then our SMPP gateway
will default delivery receipts to use the new Data SM feature, rather
than the previous Deliver SM in version 3.3.
Additionally, a customer's SMPP account can be configured to deliver
Mobile Originated SMS (messages from a mobile) through the Data SM
command versus the Deliver SM command.
Does your SMPP gateway support delivery receipts?
Yes, you can set the Registered Delivery flag during the submit or data
command which requests that a delivery receipt be returned to your
application.
What SMPP primitives (commands) does your gateway support?
At the time of this writing, Simplewire's SMPP gateway supports
Bind, Unbind, Generic Nack, Submit SM, Deliver SM, Data SM, Query SM,
and Enquire Link.
Do you provide client-side SMPP libraries (Software Development Kits)
to your gateway?
Unlike Simplewire's SMS Software Development Kits, our SMPP Direct
Connection service does not provide client-side software libraries for
our customers. However, customers seeking better control over message
and billing management, would be interested in the Simplewire Wireless
Messaging Server. Your company can use the Simplewire WMP Server in
conjunction with a Simplewire Direct SMPP Connection. Click here to

What error codes are returned from your SMPP gateway?
Please view the Simplewire SMPP Error Codes document for the most
recent information regarding error codes returned from SMPP commands.
