Technical Overview
 |
Leveraging its extensive business relationships with telecom companies throughout
the world, Simplewire has partnered with several leading network
operators to offer this exciting service. Dedicated Two-Way Messaging
service requires the purchase of one or more Dedicated Mobile
Phone Numbers. All SMS received on your company's dedicated
phone number are forwarded directly to your application.
Simplewire will allocate your company a dedicated "Big" mobile number.
Unlike some competitors who only offer "short codes", Simplewire offers
customers the ability to receive SMS from ANY network operator instead
of forcing them to receive SMS from only one network operator. Based
on the coverage your business requires, Simplewire offers several
geographically-based dedicated phone numbers.
When an SMS is received on your dedicated phone number, Simplewire
can either forward the SMS to your SMS Software Development Kit or
your Direct SMPP Connection. If you
choose to have your SMS forwarded to your SMS Software Development Kit,
then Simplewire's network will create an HTTP or HTTPS "POST" request and send
it to a URL that is configured for your company. For example:
http://www.yourcompany.com/sms/recv.asp
The format of the POST request is in an XML-based structure that any
of the Simplewire SMS Software Development Kits will understand and be
able to parse. Your application simply needs to call the parse() method
in any SMS SDK on the data submitted to the URL above. The Simplewire SMS
Software Development Kit will parse this message and your application can
access the message properties of the received SMS exactly as it does when its
sending an SMS using one our kits.

Frequently Asked Questions
 |
The standard starter package for new customers includes 10,000 message credits,
how much are extra message credits?
The prices for extra message credits are available in the
Simplewire Store.
What does the +61, +44, or +1 mean?
Simplewire is fairly limited with what the final phone number will be when it is
finally allocated to your company. The only guarantee that Simplewire will make
is that the dedicated phone number will either start with +61, +44, or +1.
Can my company obtain a "vanity" phone number, such as one that matches
my company name?
Please refer to our previous answer above.
Can my company be allocated a block of dedicated phone numbers? For example,
can we obtain a phone number and be able to add-on extra digits?
In other words, this question means can "+131355512XX" be allocated so that
no matter what the last 2 digits are the entire block of numbers starting with
+131355512 is allocated to your company.
Based on special provisioning requirements and pricing, Simplewire can
potentially provide this service to your company. Simplewire has the ability to
route an entire block of phone numbers directly to your company. Please contact
Simplewire Sales for pricing and availability.
Is the dedicated phone number a "short code"?
No, Simplewire provides "Big" mobile numbers. A "short code" is a number that is
specific to each network operator. For example, you would have to choose which
network operator(s) you wanted your application to work with and acquire "short codes"
for each one.
On the other hand, a "Big" mobile number is a real phone number and usually
works with hundreds of network operators instead of just one. They truly offer
much more flexibility than "short codes". And since its a real phone number, it is
much easier for your customers to know how to use them!
How long does it take to setup a dedicated phone number?
After payment clears, a dedicated phone number can take anywhere from 1 hour to 5
business days to setup. Simplewire maintains a pool of available phone numbers for
customers to purchase, but the immediate availablity of a new dedicated phone number
is not guaranteed.
Which network operators can your 2-way messaging work with?
For the best coverage, Simplewire recommends obtaining a dedicated phone number
in each region it offers. In the simplest breakdown, our dedicated phone numbers
have the following coverage:
- United States Dedicated Number - Excellent North American (all major operators), partial Europe, partial Africa, partial Asia coverage
- United Kingdom Dedicated Number - Excellent Europe, good Asia, partial Africa, poor North American (GSM only operators)
- Australia Dedicated Number - Excellent Asia, good Europe, partial Africa, poor North American (GSM only operators)
If you need more specific and up-to-date answers regarding a specific operator, please
contact Simplewire Sales or Simplewire Support for an answer.
How are Mobile Originated SMS priced through your network?
Every SMS received on your dedicated phone number deducts message credits
from your account. These credits are deducted in the same manner as credits
are deducted when you send messages to a mobile phone through our network.
Do you support forwarding SMS over SSL (HTTPS) instead of HTTP?
Yes, this is an option configurable with your account. Simplewire can configure
our systems to forward SMS to an SSL-secured HTTP server instead of a normal
HTTP server.
How fast can SMS be received through a dedicated mobile phone number?
Each dedicated phone number is "throttled" to a specific rate. While Simplewire can
burst up to very high throttle rates for customers, our basic accounts are throttled
to 1 message per every second. Specialized configurations allowing higher
throughput rates must be negotiated with Simplewire Sales.
